Logo: UMLUML (Unified Modeling Language) is a collection of diagrams that visualize the structure and operations of object-oriented programs. This can support the development and improve the communication between all stakeholders, because a lot of textual description is superfluous.

In 1997, members of OMG's Object Management Group (Microsoft, HP, IBM, Oracle and others) agreed on the first standard, UML 1.1. Meanwhile, version UML 2.4.1 is already standardized in ISO / IEC 19505.

Essential diagram types are, for example:

  •     Use case diagram
  •     Class diagram
  •     Object diagram
  •     Sequence diagram
  •     Activity diagram
  •     State diagram
