Of course, many programming languages are available for managing Microsoft's Active Directory, e.g:

  • HTML5 and JavaScript in connection with PHP
  • Powershell
  • .NET languages such as C# or Visual Basic
  • Java
  • python


However, if the language should also run on Linux clients, i.e. should be cross-platform capable, then Powershell is omitted and .NET is only supported to a limited extent.

In addition, it would not be desirable to commit yourself exclusively to Active Directory, because there are also other directory services such as Open Source based Samba, which is free.

Although Java is large and powerful, it also requires a lot of memory space and computing resources.
HTML5 and JavaScript in connection with PHP is not easy to learn and object-oriented programming is only supported to a limited extent.

Python logoPython is quickly installed, cross-platform capable, object-oriented and relatively easy to learn. Besides, there are plenty of libraries to any directory services.

But Python is also great to learn for other application areas. For example, Python is the language of choice for a large part of the data science community.
